Give each color a job

Layer yellow over blue for green shifts, pink over blue for violet, or a warm color over gray to mute it. Test the order because the top layer often influences the final appearance most.
Use pressure as extra colors
One blue pencil can produce pale sky, middle-value petals, and deep edges. Preserve white paper for the brightest value and use the dark pencil only where separation is needed.
Repeat accents in small doses
If coral appears in the focal flower, echo it in three tiny buds or border details. Repetition makes a surprising color feel planned.
